Quintet of English Folding Scales. Very Good. The first item is an English folding scale, with an iron beam and other parts in brass. There is a circular pan suspended from one end of the beam, and a narrow swinging shelf on the other. Housed in a hinged brass case with a custom wooden insert for two circular weights (weights not present). The second item is an English folding scale in brass, with a counterweight on one side of the beam and a narrow swinging shelf on the other. The counterweight is inscribed AVERY. Housed in a hinged wooden case with red interior and a label on the lid that reads W & T AVERY, MAKERS, BIRMINGHAM 1843. The third item is an English folding scale with a round pan on one side of the beam and a narrow swinging shelf on the other. Housed in a dark wooden case with a dark, only partially legible label on the lid that reads WIL[KIN]SON, Ormskirk/(Late of KIRKBY)/Near LIVERPOOL. The fourth item is a brass scale with a slide on the beam in a wooden box. Paper labels inside the base and lid provide instructions to weigh guineas and half guineas, and identify the mark as A. WILKINSON, KIRKBY, NEAR LIVERPOOL. The fifth item is a Stephen Houghton brass scale in a wooden box. The scale has a slide on the beam to adjust for sovereigns and half sovereigns. Paper labels inside the base and lid identify the maker as STEPHEN HOUGHTON & SON of HOUGHTON, SUCCESSORS TO A. WILKINSON. Dimensions vary and are approximately 5.5 x 1.0 x 0.5 inches. Ex: Eric P.
