Title Lot 15710
Description Four English Sovereign Scales. Very Good to Fine. The first item is a brass English sovereign scale, with two slots (inscribed for a sovereign or half sovereign) on one side of the beam and a counterweight on the other. The counterweight side of the beam is inscribed with the image of a crown and the words B. CATTLE. CATTLE'S PATENT is inscribed on the base. The second item is a slightly smaller sovereign rocker, with a crown inscribed on the counterweight and two narrow oblong pans on the other side of the beam inscribed for a sovereign or half sovereign. The base has T.S. inscribed in the center, with SOVEREIGN above and WARRANTED below. The third item is another brass English sovereign scale, with a counterweight on one side of the beam and a single pan for a sovereign (with an insert for a half sovereign) on the other. There are sliding adjustment marks on the pan side of the beam. The final item is a similar English sovereign scale, with the usual two pans on one side and counterweight on the other. H. HYAMS is inscribed on the counterweight, with 22 CORNHILL on the beam. The dimensions vary and range from 3.6 to 4.5 inches long, 0.6 to 0.8 inches wide, and 0.5 to 0.9 inches high. Ex: Eric P.
