W & T Avery Scale, Birmingham, England and an Unknown Vintage Apothecary Scale, also English in Origin. Fine to Very Fine. The W & T. Avery scale has its original yellow label on the inside of the lid and Catherine E. Bullowa's receipt of purchase from 46 years ago, when Eric P. Newman purchased it for $27. Housed in a rectangular wooden case measuring 7.3 x 4.6 x 1.7 inches, the all-brass balance and pans are in excellent used condition with green string for the pans. Thirteen assorted weights are included in the square, uncovered compartment within the case, which has velvet lining on the bottom. The second scale has a slight camelback curve to the case lid with two areas of old restoration where the top was marred. The wooden case measures 6.8 x 3.3 x 1 inches. Inside, the velvet tray is framed by tin beading. The iron balance is in choice used condition, with green string to suspend the brass pans. A brass-covered compartment houses a full set of apothecary weights, plus a few extras. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
