Four Scales from Various Countries, Good to Very Good. The first scale is a two-pan balance, with decorative strings for the pans, housed in a 8 x 3 x 1.5 inch triangular wooden box. A handwritten note from Eric P. Newman, notes the scale was purchased on a trip to Afghanistan, where he was accompanied by his wife, Evelyn. The second item is a French scale housed in a 7 x 2 0.7 inch oblong wooden box, with a covered weight compartment containing small rectangular weights and some circular nested weights in a fitted recess. Accompanied by a short, handwritten descriptive note by Eric P. Newman. The third item is an English coin scale, circa 1820, housed in a 5.3 x 2.2 x 0.7 inch oval tin box, with fabric lining. The fabric is faded and holed in some places and much of the paint is missing from the outside of the case. A custom-fitted wooden insert has five insets that hold weights of various denominations, from sovereign on down. A short descriptive note accompanies in Eric P. Newman's hand. The final item is a hand-held iron scale with a 6.5 inch beam and 3 inch diameter brass pans of uncertain origin. A short descriptive note from Eric P. Newman notes: "Needs identity." Ex: Eric P.
