Description Five Scales From Various Times and Countries. Very Good to Fine. The first item is a large, but simple, Wells Fargo & Co. Express pan balance with a 12.5 inch beam and 6 inch diameter pans, circa 1870, probably used for weighing gold. The second item is a 19th century set of two scales from Afghanistan, one large and one small, with an assortment of weights. Housed in a custom-made 10.5 x 6 x 1.8 inch wooden box, with inserts for the scales and weights. The third item is a Fischer Scientific Company scale, mounted on a 10 x 5 x 2 inch wooden box, with a drawer. There is green paint on the scale beam and fulcrum post, and metal rods for holding two nickel (or white metal) pans. Inside the drawer is a plastic case containing various weights and a number of handwritten notes about weight conversions, etc. The fourth item is a "5 Coin Registering Bank Scale" - in pieces. Dollar and cent increments are arranged around the scale face. The dimensions are approximately 7 x 5 x 3 inches. The final item is an iron hanging scale with hooks to attach weights, mounted in a 3 x 3.8 inch oval frame with hook for hanging the entire scale. Inscribed HENRY BOKER/GERMANY. Ex: Eric P.
