19th century Brass-Plated Cast Iron Sorting Tray. Very Good. A heavy brass-plated cast iron sorting tray, with slots for five denominations of U.S. coins (nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollars, and dollars) and two depressions (one rectangular and one circular) for loose change. Possibly designed as a top for a coin changer. An inscription on the tray is not completely legible, but a note from Eric P. Newman, which accompanies the lot, says the device was patented "SEPT ???9." Measures approximately 12.3 x 7 x 1 inches. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
