[Hartford, Connecticut]. A Register of Bills / Decr. 16th AD 1812. (Hartford, 1812-1817). Four sheets of 33 by 38 cm plain paper folded and stitched to form eight leaves measuring 19 by 33 cm, the whole sewn into paper covers formed from two sheets of a newspaper. Title taken from opening inscription on first leaf; short title also written on front cover. All 16 resulting pages are covered with a handwritten register recording all paper money received by a merchant from Dec. 16, 1812, to Jan. 15, 1817. Most entries record the date of receipt, a basic description of the note, and from whom it was received, to protect against charges of passing a counterfeit bill. Script is reasonably neat and the paper is of good quality. Very good, overall. Estimate $300. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
