Description (Hawkins, Edward). Anglo-Gallic Coins in the Collection of Sir Charles Frederick, Knight of the Bath. (London, c. 1830). 8vo, contemporary red straight-grained morocco, gilt; spine with five raised bands, ruled, lettered and decorated in gilt; all board edges and turn-ins decorated in gilt; marbled endpapers. (2), 29 leaves, ruled neatly, on which have been mounted engravings of 69 Anglo-Gallic coins, with annotations in the hand of Edward Hawkins. Coins depicted are mostly from the collection of Charles Frederick but also include some based on published illustrations that subsequently proved apocryphal. Frederick (1709-1785) had commissioned a series of engravings of these coins, discussed by Hawkins (1780-1867) in his introduction to the British Museum catalogue of the Anglo-Gallic coinage.
