Old Timer Assay Commission Society (OTACS). OTACS Meeting Medals. Sixteen medals with ribbons, generally in box of issue. Eric P. Newman served as chair of the Assay Commission for 1967 and as a former Assay Commissioner was entitled to membership in the highly exclusive Old Timer Assay Commissioner Society (OTCAS). The club was essentially social in nature and met each year during the ANA Convention. As the commission was stripped of public members in 1977 and abolished in 1980, the OTACS membership steadily declined until they held their last meeting in 2012. For each meeting, a custom medal was created. Medals are present for the following meetings: 5th-12th (1969-1976), 14th-16th (1978-1980), 18th (1982), 21st-23rd (1985-1987), and 25th (1989). The 1980 medal is erroneously numbered as the 15th meeting, which was held the year before. Each is in an original box of issue with its ribbon and clasp, as issued (some are housed two to a box and one is loose). They were manufactured primarily by Medallic Art Company, with a few produced by Endurart or the Franklin Mint. The 25th meeting medal has green corrosion; the others are essentially as issued.
