Province of Georgia 1774 Typeset Certificate 5 Shillings Fr. GA-52. PCGS Fine 15 Apparent. The 1774 Typeset Certificates are extremely rare with few printed. Only 1,200 5 Shilling notes were printed and the vast majority appear to have been redeemed and destroyed. A fully issued certificate with six signatures. An ornamental border surrounds the text on this uniface example. At lower right is FIVE/SHILLINGS in a simple cartouche. Apparent, as is typical for larger notes of the period, with "Splits and Repairs; Backed." Not often encountered and not priced in Friedberg or Newman. The Boyd note sold in Ford III as Lot 771 for $2,990 was very appealing for the type, likely among the finest. This is a pleasing example of a note that is nearly impossible to obtain. Ex: Eric P. Realized $1,762.50. Newman VI (Heritage Auctions, 4/2015), lot 19456. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions. |
