Description | Georgia (1776) Undated $8 Fr. GA-82. PCGS Very Fine 30 Apparent. This $8 "Man Holding a Sword" denomination would pair beautifully with a Revere-engraved "Sword in Hand" note. It is accurate to call this the southern version of Revere's iconic imagery. Border variety (f). The figure in the lower right vignette is facing forward, brandishing his sword in a menacing manner, and wearing a finely detailed coat. There are five signatures. Well margined on all sides, and the paper quality is mostly sound. There is a dark foxing blot in the right margin. Noted with "Stains; Minor Ink Erosion; Minor Mounting Remnants on Back." Notes from the series are underrated compared to many color seal types. This denomination is deservedly the most sought after due to the popular imagery. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society From Newman VIII (Heritage Auctions, 11/2017), lot 28021, realized $1320. Image and description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, https://ha.com. |
