Description Maryland October 1, 1748 20 Shillings "New Bill" Contemporary Counterfeit Fr. MD-21. PCGS Fine 12 Apparent. All Maryland Colonial notes issued before 1767 are extremely rare, and that includes contemporary counterfeits. This is a wide format, indented note, with the Maryland Arms at the upper left. This particular counterfeit is cited in the appendix of the Newman 5th edition. Plainly penned in the period is "Counterfeit New Bill" at the top center. Noted by PCGS as "Pen Cancelled" and with "Splits, Tears, and Damage; Repairs." The note has a full appearance. A key note for specialists, and perhaps irreplaceable. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society Realized $705.00. Newman VII (Heritage Auctions, 10/2015), lot 18064. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.
