Massachusetts October 18, 1776 2 Pence Fr. MA-222. PCGS Choice About New 58. The Paul Revere engraved face plate was first used on this issue. Overall there are two dates and back style for the "Codfish" bills. The 1776 notes with the John Gill backs are much scarcer than the later 1778 notes, especially so in high grades. Because the notes are earlier, the plate generally exhibits stronger printing clarity, making these sharper looking compared to the next note from 1788. This is a beautiful type note with broad margins and full sheet edge along the bottom. Both sides are well printed and undervalued in this high grade. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
