Pennsylvania April 29, 1780 5 Shillings Fr. PA-225. PCGS Extremely Fine 40 Apparent. This is an intriguing and very rare series printed by John Dunlap. The Boyd Collection had five different denominations which were acquired over decades. They are rarely seen or offered for sale. This was an interest bearing issue, at the rate of 5%, and to be redeemed in "Silver Dollars." The notes were mostly redeemed and the issue was not repudiated, like all the other early states' obligations, after the Revolution. This is a superior example, and we believe it to be finer than the Boyd note. Cited are "Minor Mounting Remnants on Back," and they are indeed minor. The face projects well printed surfaces on both sides with reasonable margins. A very handsome example from a rare and unusual series. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
