Description | Pennsylvania March 20, 1771 10 Shillings Francis Hopkinson Signature Fr. PA-147. PCGS Extremely Fine 40 Apparent. The March 20, 1771, Pennsylvania series is a handsome one with red borders, Penn family arms, and devices. The signature of Francis Hopkinson, signer of the Declaration of Independence, appears on some notes from this series. On this plate A example, his nicely accomplished signature appears below the other two. Hopkinson notes are much scarcer than John Hart notes from New Jersey and John Morton notes from Pennsylvania, particularly in choice grade. Noted with "Mounting Remnants on Back," which are on the corners only. Very bold red color on the face and an excellent candidate for a Colonial note "Signers" set. These are justifiably always in demand. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society From Newman VIII (Heritage Auctions, 11/2017), lot 28121, realized $1320.
