Description | New Hampshire June 28, 1776 4 Shillings Fr. NH-168. PCGS Very Fine 35. This is a rare, small format uniface note printed on coarse, sturdy paper. Typeset with ornamental bordering around the perimeter, and the denomination in the border on three sides. Of the 6,000 authorized, it seems nearly all were redeemed for later notes. Boyd had the only collection with several high-grade notes from the Act. This is a gorgeous highest denomination note with a strong signature of John Smith. There is a broad sheet margin at the bottom. With its very natural paper, this example has the appearance of a PPQ-designated note. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society From Newman VIII (Heritage Auctions, 11/2017), lot 28057, realized $1440. Image and description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, https://ha.com. |
