State of North Carolina August 8, 1778 $5 A Lesson... Fr. NC-176c. PCGS Choice About New 55PPQ. The North Carolina motto type notes have been underappreciated by modern collectors, especially compared to the April 2, 1776 vignetted type. Many are much rarer than thought. High grade, choice and original notes like the Newman example are often impossible to locate. The lengthy slogan, "A Lesson to Arbitrary Kings, and wicked Ministers," directly references the causes and consequences of the American Revolution. This is very well printed on both sides. The face is off-center, but the back is fully margined. Superb paper quality and clarity. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society
