Description

Colony of New York April 15, 1758 10 Pounds Fr. NY-154. PCGS About New 53 Apparent. There were 100,000 pounds authorized for this second Crown Point expedition series, but only two denominations were printed. A rare type, but when encountered, usually split or in unstable condition due to the thick, coarse backs used. This is a top-grade example for the type and appears nearly as made from the face. The New York coat of arms at the right is bold. Borders are on three sides with ornaments along the bottom. The three signatures of Livingston, Clarkson, and Van Horne are clear. Very well margined and deeply printed. Noted with "Minor Mounting Remnants on Back." The similar Boyd collection note, Ford Part III: Lot 634, realized $1,955 in May 2004. This note is illustrated on the color plates in the fifth edition of the Newman reference on page 51. Like that example, this is certainly one of the finest notes from the issue. Ex: Eric P. From Newman VIII (Heritage Auctions, 11/2017), lot 28089, realized $1800. Image and description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, https://ha.com.
