New York The City and County of Albany June 22, 1775 5 Shillings Fr. NY-171.2. PCGS Fine 15 Apparent. This is an extremely rare official municipal issue, thought to be Rarity 8 (1-3 known). The series was not in DuPont, the foremost collection of Colonial private and municipal notes ever formed. Many of DuPont's private issue notes plated in Newman are still considered unique. Uniface and printed on laid paper, this is a wide format, typeset note. The left end has flourishes, and ornamental borders appear on the top and the right. With three signatures as authorized; Jacob Lansing, Jr. and Jacob C. Ten Eyck, are visible, and the third faded. Full from the face, but with some partial backing to reinforce it. Noted with "Splits, Tears, and Minor Damage; Repairs; Partially Backed; Minor Stains." Only the Boyd collection had a few denominations from the issue, otherwise rarely encountered in any condition.
