Colony of New York May 31, 1709 10 Shillings (a) Fr. NY-2. PCGS Choice New 63. The second denomination from this very early series of New York "Tall" bills. This was printed on the sheets for the 5 shillings, two of each, running across. Style and layout are the same as on the 5 shillings. As previously, uniface and printed in black by William Bradford, without imprint, on horizontal four-subject sheets. Typeset with the top block with indented design. Three very bold, "Dutch" style vanity signatures are seen at the bottom, dominated by Johannes DePeyster in the center. There are also two plate positions with different typesetting arrangements. This is the "a" type with the unhyphenated "Shillings" on the second line and the "Governor" spelling near the end of the obligation. Only 500 notes of each 10 shilling plate arrangement were authorized. This is a choice note and the natural paper body has the look of PPQ; surfaces are nearly immaculate.
