Colony of New York May 31, 1709 10 Shillings Fr. NY-2. PCGS Extremely Fine 45 Apparent. The second denomination from this very early series of "Tall" bills. This was also printed on the same sheets with the 5 Shillings, two of each, running across. Style and layout are the same as on the 5 Shillings. As above, uniface and printed in black by William Bradford, without imprint, on horizontal four-subject sheets. Typeset with the top block indented. Three very bold, "Dutch" style vanity signatures are seen at the bottom, led by Johannes DePeyster. There are also two plate positions with different typesetting arrangements. This is the "a" type with "Shillings" on the second line and the "Governor" spelling near the end of the obligation. Like the last, it has the look of a PPQ note but with very "Minor Ink Erosion in Signature" noted by PCGS. But again this is more than compensated for by the natural paper body and immaculate surfaces. A very handsome and bold note, and one of the finest we have seen or handled. Ex: Eric P.
