1805 1/2 C Small 5, No Stems, C-1, B-1, R.1, AU55 PCGS. Our EAC Grade XF45. A strong and nicely centered strike reveals nearly full border dentils on this Choice AU half cent. Intermingled golden-olive and steel patina resides on the lustrous services, with faint traces of mint color. A strong glass reveals the trivial imperfections that otherwise go unnoticed. Variety: C-1, B-1. Manley Die State 2.0, usual for this variety. The reverse is rotated about 30 degrees clockwise. Population Data (4/15): PCGS reports 48 1805 No Stems half cents in AU and 23 in Mint State. This example is one of 14 AU55, with 22 AU58. Heritage Commentary: PCGS identifies the obverse as a "Small 5," although most specialists agree that "Medium 5" is a better description. Provenance: Purchased from Bill Nagle (1/2008).
