1850 1/2 C C-1, High R.6, PR64 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. Our EAC Grade PR63. Ex: Pittman. Considerable mellow mint red appears with blue and violet tones on the obverse, and faded red accompanying peripheral blue toning on the reverse. Both sides exhibit reflective fields, high wire rims, and limited proof mirrors. Variety: C-1. A single die pair was utilized for proofs and business strikes in 1850. Population Data (3/15): The 15 proof 1850 half cents at PCGS include three PR64 Red and Brown, two PR65 Brown, and three PR65 Red and Brown (one PR65+ Red and Brown). Heritage Commentary: Only two people have owned this near-Gem proof half cent for the last 60 years. John Pittman was the owner of record for 43 years, and Gene Gardner for the last 17 years.
