1811/0 1C S-286, B-2, R.3, AU55 PCGS. CAC. Our EAC Grade AU50. This Choice AU example, housed in a green-label PCGS holder, displays exceptional olive-brown surfaces with splashes of lighter brown in the protected areas, including well-faded mint red on the reverse. Although the strike is imperfectly centered, both sides show complete border dentils. Variety: The distinctive overdate feature is clearly visible to the naked eye. No clash marks appear on this early die state piece. Population Data (3/15): PCGS shows this example and one other as AU55, along with one AU58, the sole finest at that service. Heritage Commentary: Del Bland grades this piece AU50 and tied for second finest known, while Bill Noyes says AU50 and finest known. Provenance: T. Bishop Disney; Peter Mougey; William H.
