1814 1C Crosslet 4, S-294, B-1, R.1, MS66 Brown NGC. Our EAC Grade MS62. Full cartwheel luster appears on both sides of this lovely blue-steel cent, which retains faint traces of original orange mint color in the protected areas. The bold strike shows exceptional detail on Liberty's hair curls and on the wreath leaves. The exquisite surfaces are free of marks. Variety: The sole die pair with the Crosslet 4 date style. Late die state, showing faint clash marks and light flowlines on both sides. Population Data (3/15): For all 1814 cents of both varieties, NGC reports one MS66 Brown, four MS66 Red and Brown, and one MS67 Brown. Heritage Commentary: Although many Mint State 1814 large cents exist of both date styles, few can possibly match the exceptional quality of this Premium Gem. This piece's status as the last year of the Classic Head design adds even further to its appeal. Provenance: RARCOA (9/4/1996).
