1834 1C Small 8, Large Stars, Medium Letters, N-2, R.1, MS67 Brown NGC. Our EAC Grade MS63. This Superb Gem Brown 1834 cent displays an especially bold strike with diagnostic die cracks connecting the peripheral devices on the obverse. Mellowed mint color remains in the recesses, and the light reddish-brown color is accented with blue highlights. Mint State examples of this die pairing are plentiful, but few could be appreciably finer than this outstanding representative. Variety: The obverse is cracked clockwise from the 1 through all the stars to the 4. The reverse is cracked from the A in STATES through the wreath to the CA of AMERICA. Population Data (3/15): This is the sole MS67 Brown 1834 large cent at NGC. In second place is a single MS66 Red and Brown. Heritage Commentary: The 1834 N-2 cent is common in all grades. In addition to its importance as a Guide Book variety, this die pairing is a great choice for type collectors. Provenance: Heritage (6/2005), lot 5105; Legend (11/28/2005).
