Biography
This series consists of letters received from Assistant Treasurers, depositaries, applicants, Treasury employees, and members of the Civil Service Commission relating to the appointment, promotion, removal, and resignation of clerks, assayers, messengers, money counters, watchmen, and other subordinate employees. Included are letters relating to increases in salary, employees' oath of office, and requests for the examination of employees for promotion. A few of the letters received after 1902 include copies of the replies of the Secretary of the Treasury. Some letters pertaining to the business of the Offices of the Assistant Treasurers are included. The records were maintained by the Office of the Secretary of the Treasury.
