Heath's Infallible Counterfeit Detector
A series running from 1864 to 1889, which aimed to assist the general public with detection of counterfeit paper money. The standard reference to this series is Eric P. Newman's "Heath's Counterfeit Detectors: An Extraordinarily Successful Comedy of Errors," published in the 1991 ANA Centennial Anthology. Variety 2-P-s-5: Heath Counterfeit Detectors varied from edition to edition, and noted Numismatist Eric P. Newman, whose collection this particular Counterfeit Detector is from, developed a classification system to compare and describe their variety. This particular variety is described as follows: Same as Variety 2-P-s-4 except for: Impressions from $20 Fourth National Bank of New York counterfeit plate or from $10 First National Bank of Philadelphia counterfeit plate, or both, are present in addition to $100 First National Bank of Boston and 50 cent fractional currency counterfeits.
