He noted that the newest Gub publication was his tome on Wood’s Hibernia Coinage, which was available from Charlie Davis, as per the Gub’s recent publication distribution agreement with Charlie. This volume cost the Gub $10,000 and is available for $85. It was noted that there was strong interest in it on both sides of the Atlantic. Syd and Lou Jordan are working a guide to those who have information to share but do not know how to get it in a publishable form. Concerning the rising Newsletter cost Jim Rosen mentioned that consideration is being given to offering an on-line option for members, since annual cost of providing the printed Newsletter to members is '-$40/member versus $25 annual membership dues. The subject of the Newsletter brought up questions about indexing its contents and transferring previous issues to DVDs, and the feasibility and costs of doing that. Several members noted that they thought these would not be too hard or costly. It was noted that early issues are not digital yet. Publication Committee Report - Dave Mencheil, our new

Quite a number of C4 members were in attendance, and although colonials were not in an abundant supply, some extraordinary coins did change hands. Well-known colonial dealers, including Dave Wnuck, John Agre, Tony Terranova, Steve Hayden, Tom Rinaldo, Steve Tannenbaum, and others reported good sales to a relatively large crowd. As a memorial to Mike Ringo, the Terranovas sponsored banners on each isle in his memory. On behalf on C4, thanks Tony and Maryann. Then we walked in a gentle rain to Jim Skalbe's store (Collector's Shop) with a side-track at Colonial Trading. Then, it was back to the Hotel just in time for dealers to set up on the bourse floor. Being that C4 has tables for exhibits and the club, I get to go into the bourse early and set up. Highlight: According to Syd Martin, a noted expert on varieties in the Wood’s Hibernia series, there are only five known varieties ofWood’s farthing-size silver presentation pieces: Breen 171 type dated 1723, Breen 173 type dated 1 723 with three varieties that includes one from William Wood’s estate that is listed as a proof, and Breen 176 type dated 1724.^® The number of varieties for St. Patrick silver pieces is listed by Breen as six although the actual estimate is potentially higher and awaits further study. As a result of the above observations, and the absence of any documentary evidence to the contrary, I considerthe existence of gold and silver coins to be evidence of two salient points. First is the general numismatic assumption that any production of non-regal high quality bullion coins in

He came across a red uncirculated 1723 example in a coin dealer's stock and bought it, thinking it must be a great bargain. He learned from the Breen Encyclopedia that 125 varieties were known. Rumor also has it that it will be the same price as the Wood's Hibernia Book ($85 or $95 including shipping). We ALL should have an example of a Rosa Americana coin in our collections! How much more "Colonial American" can you get than to have "Americana" in the coin's legend??? I saw Syd's copy that was rush mailed to him for the ANA Convention. Unfortunately, we were at a restaurant and I didn't have the time to spend with it that I wish I had. But this looks like the book for Rosas that will be called "The Standard Reference" for generations to come. I checked with Charlie Davis who confirmed the rumor, provided pricing, and

Highlight: it is evidently a rarity that may be seeing the light of day for the first time thanks to the Syd Martinossibly unique in this metallic composition. Until now, just two impressions were known from the die combination, and both those pieces are struck in silver. The illustrious list of owners of one of the sil- ver pieces, the discovery piece, includes King, Picker, Roper, and Ford, and now it rests in the cabinet of Roger Siboni. As noted in Syd Martin's reference on the series: "The only observed example of this die paired with reverse F.3 is a sil- ver example.

Highlight: I’m thrilled to be able to say that Syd Martin’s research on Woods Hibemias has been published and will be available at the convention. Charles Davis will be handling the distribution and sales of this long awaited reference. 1 was able to spend time with the editing copy and can honestly say that this work will stand the test of time and will be the standard reference for generations to come! Syd has a good start on his next book - Rosa Americana Coinage. At this coming convention, C4 will be presenting Robert Vlack with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Bob has been actively researching colonial numismatics for 5 decades or more! His publications and contributions to our hobby have helped to advance our knowledge pool and our enjoyment of this hobby. Bob studied aspects of colonial coinage

Highlight: C4 Newsletter ANA CONVENTION (Syd Martin) The summer American Numismatic Association convention was held this year in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, during August 8-12, 2007. Ray Williams was presented the Smedley Award by ANA (see separate article herein) for his services to the hobby - richly deserved. He stated “I was extremely proud to

Highlight: I met Syd Martin there and the three of us drove together to Boston. I was amazed that all the equipment I bring was able to fit in Roger's car, along with Syd's books and exhibit. It was a pleasant 5-hour drive to Boston, where we arrived about 2:30 and brought everything to our rooms. It didn't take long, thanks to help from Tim Martin, who just jumped right in and placed the C4 table cover under the cases and set up all the auction lot viewing tables. This year we had two awesome exhibits on
