Highlight: The Rand McNallyndex to counties and towns. The vast majority of Civil War Token towns can be quickly located by looking up the town in the index and using the number and letter coordinates to find it on the map. However, about 50 of the towns are not in the index, and these are generally the towns where the rarer tokens were issued. To find out where those 50 towns were, or are, I got hold of a Rand McNally Business Atlas of 1878. Nearly all of the towns were listed there, and could be found on maps. If you have any additional information please send it directly to your editor... so get out your local maps and see if you can provide more information on these

Highlight: Rand McNally isn’t all it is cracked up to be. Some towns appeared on the map, but not in the index. That writing too much like talking too much can create some problems. After writing my article I noted that David Gladfelter wrote an article that appeared in our original Journal of the Civil War Token Society (predeCCeSSOr to the Copperhead Courier ) entitled “The Old and the New” V6N3P78. In this article he pin- points many of the towns I asked questions about. I tried to have my article dropped, but I presume it was too late, so I apologized to David Gladfelter and to all you members of the society. You have learned that I am a bit careless, having listed two towns that are still going strong: Hales Corner, Wisconsin and Ironton, Missouri, and leaving out Barton, Wisconsin, Sorry
