Flat Back

Flat Back.  A uniface piece with no rim or border and obviously no design or wording on the reverse. Plaques that are identified as having a flat back are in contrast to those that have a backplate, or those that are cast hollow and exhibit some form of the obverse design on the back (like a shell). For a struck piece a flat back is made from a jack die.  See uniface.
